JEBUS, JEBUSITES, JERUSALEM

ONLY INDIGENOUS PEOPLE TO PALESTINE

Let us be clear on this one issue; though there were Arabians and Syrians, Egyptians and Babylonians around in 1300 to 1003 bc, none of these races were Jebusites; therefore none are indigenous to the land. Only the Jebusites qualify as indigenous to the land of Jerusalem; as well as the kingdom which followed theirs which was the Kingdom of David followed by the Kingdom of Solomon. This means the people of King David are indigenous to the land of Israel and his capitol city of Jerusalem.

Adoni-Zedek King of Jerusalem

Adoni-Zedek King of Jerusalem at the time of the invasion of Canaan by the Israelites under Joshua along with the Gibeonites. Adon-Zedek made al league with four other kings to fight against the Hebrew invaders. Joshua came unexpectedly upon the allied kings, and utterly routed them. They were discovered in the cave of Makkedah and brought before Joshua, who by the way is descended from the tribe of Ham as were the Jebusites. Biblical text states Joshua killed the kings of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish and Eglon, known as the five Amorite kings. Two significant events happened to emphasize the Lord God being on the side of Israel, first hailstones killed more of the enemies men then did the sword and second, the Sun stood still an the Moon stopped for a full day; this is recorded in the book of Jasher and is why this author believe that book will surface in our life time as the dead Sea scrolls did. Joshua 10  …A MUST READ!

The Gibeonite Deception

This occurred around the same time as the Joshua invasion of Jerusalem. The Gibeonites became a people and city which allied itself to Joshua and the Israelites. Joshua 9

But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which [is] Jerusalem ; and [there were] with him two asses saddled, his concubine also [was] with him.

19:11

[And] when they [were] by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn into this city of the Jebusites , and lodge in it.

1 Chronicles 11:4-5

11:4 David and all the Israelites marched to Jerusalem , that is Jebus. The Jebusites who lived there 11:5 said to David, “You will not get in here.” Nevertheless, David captured the fortress of Zion , the city of David .

Jebus, Jebusites, inhabited Jerusalem before the Israelite conquest of King David. King Solomon continued the conquest.

In the 15th chapter of Joshua the names of one hundred and eighty (180) cities are listed, as allotted to the tribe of Judah alone; but afterwards seventeen of them were given to the tribe of Simeon and afterward some to the Levites. These one hundred and eighty cities were located south of Jerusalem and west of the Dead Sea ; and in a tract of country about fifty miles square and equal to 1/5 of their territory.

The reason for there being so many cities in Palestine is because there were no houses in the country area all the inhabitants lived in the cities. Those who tilled the land went out in the morning and returned at night. The cities were surrounded by high walls known as (fenced) cities to protect the inhabitants from robbers and enemies and from wild beasts.

The number of cities apportioned to the several tribes, as stated in the book of Joshua, is as follows:

  •  Manasseh 60 cities
  •  Judah 101 cities
  •  Simeon 17 cities
  •  Benjamin 25 cities
  •  Zebulon 12 cities
  •  Issachar 16 cities
  •  Asher 22 cities
  •  Naphtali 19 cities
  •  Dan 18 cities

_______

Total 291 cities

This does not include the cities occupied by the tribes of Ruben, Gad and Ephraim and the half tribe Manasseh which located west of the Jordan .

Josephus has estimated that the smallest town contained 15,000 inhabitants, by this an average calculation of the total population could be estimated at 6 million, which is probably a low figure. Remember this is a Hebrew population since the Jebusites were conquered and not seen again as an identifiable nation.
